  • Dr. Stephen Chae - Panelist

    Manager of Technology Strategy & Open Innovation Samsung Research America

    Dr. Hyun Sik (Stephen) Chae is a manager of Technology Strategy and Open Innovation at Samsung Research America.

    His current role in Samsung is to identify and provide insight on technology trends and future business opportunities, establish strategic collaboration and partnerships with universities and companies, with a focus on display technology.

    Before his current position, he worked for three years in Samsung as a staff research engineer developing next generation display materials in Boston.

    Prior to joining Samsung, he was senior researcher working on novel advanced organic electronic display materials and devices at Nitto Denko Technical Corp for 10 years in San Diego. 

    He received his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry in 2004 from University of California, San Diego.

  • Dr. Zine Bouhamri

    Display Technology & Market Analyst Yole Développement

    Dr. Zine Bouhamri is a Display Technology & Market Analyst and part of the Photonics, Sensing & Display division at Yole Développement (Yole). Zine manages day to day production of technology & market reports, as well as custom consulting projects. He’s authored the Displays & Optical Vision Systems for VR, AR & MR 2018 report and co-authored the MicroLED Displays 2018 report and contributed to various customer projects on Quantum dots, OLED, AR/VR displays etc.

    Prior to joining Yole Développement, Zine was in charge of various R&D programs at microLED company Aledia. He has developed a strong technical expertise as well as a detailed understanding of the display industry. Zine is author and co-author of several papers and patents. Dr. Bouhamri holds an Electronics Engineering Degree from the National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble (France), one from the Politecnico di Torino (Italy), and a Ph.D. in RF & Optoelectronics from Grenoble University (France).

  • J. Norman Bardsley

    President Bardsley Consulting

    J. Norman Bardsley, PhD., is a consultant to industry, government and academia on flat panel displays and solid-state lighting, with special focus on organic and printed electronics.  Norman received an M.A. in mathematics from Cambridge University and a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Manchester in England. He began his career as Professor of Physics at the University of Pittsburgh, leading a research group in atomic, molecular and plasma physics.  Since then he has been Strategic Business Development Manager in the Information Technology Division at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Director of Roadmaps and Standards at the US Display Consortium (USDC) and Director of Display Technology for DisplaySearch.   His current activities are centered upon diffuse lighting based on solid-state technology (OLEDs and embedded LEDs).

  • J. Chris Beckman

    Technical Lead Engineer Boeing Commercial Aircraft

    J. Chris Beckman serves as a Lead Lighting Engineer for Boeing Commercial Aircraft and is the equipment manager for 787 Interior Cabin Lighting, Emergency Lighting, Passenger Information Signs, and Electronic Dimmable Windows.  He currently is the Boeing Designated Expert (BDE) for photobiology and chronobiology.  He leads the lighting team strategy for revenue, leads the Boeing enterprise strategy for photobiology and chronobiology, is an engineering liaison with Boeing Product Development and Marketing groups, and works with Boeing supply base and airline customers from around the world to provide needed and desired products.

    Prior to this role, Beckman worked in France helping manage Boeing seat suppliers to perform testing qualification on seats and their electronic systems, aircraft 16g seat dynamic crash testing and for Head Impact Criteria (HIC), and has also worked for the FAA performing qualification testing for electronic and actuation systems.  He is a member of the Illuminance Engineering Society (IES) and of the Society of Aerospace Engineers (SAE) and has contributed to SAE Aerospace Recommended Practices (ARPs). He has submitted, or is working on, twelve patents related to aerospace lighting. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling around beautiful Western Washington.

  • Dr. Michael Boroson

    Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder OLEDWorks LLC

    Dr. Boroson is Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of OLEDWorks LLC, the world’s leading OLED lighting panel manufacturing company. OLEDWorks is comprised of OLED experts from the former Eastman Kodak and Philips OLED business units. Dr. Boroson founded OLEDWorks in 2010 with Dr. John Hamer and David DeJoy, CPA, to create a world class OLED Solid State Lighting manufacturing company. Prior to founding OLEDWorks, Dr. Boroson was a member of the OLED program at Eastman Kodak Company from 1995 to 2010 where he held various roles within the OLED Business Unit.

    Dr. Boroson holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a process development and scale-up expert and has critical expertise in manufacturing process improvement and implementation, encapsulation, thin film deposition and laser processing. He was a key member of the team that developed, designed, and implemented the world's first AM-OLED products and the AM-OLED manufacturing line that introduced novel process steps such as linear organic deposition sources, precision alignment of fine metal shadow-masks, and glass to glass encapsulation. He has 30 years of experience in product commercialization, manufacturing process and equipment development, and technology transfer. He has over 50 US patents.

  • Dr. Neetu Chopra

    Program Director, RGB Technology Kateeva

    Dr. Chopra joined Kateeva in 2014. She serves as Program Director for RGB technology program. In this role, Dr. Chopra leads a team of key technologists on technology development for printing OLED displays. Dr. Chopra has vast OLED experience and has previously worked with Marketing team as a Sr. Technology Marketing Manager on bringing Kateeva technology to market. Before Kateeva, Dr. Chopra worked at Plextronics in Pittsburgh as a contributor to Plexcore® product development. Dr. Chopra earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Polymer Science and Chemical Technology from Delhi College of Engineering in India and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Florida.

  • Dr. Dipak Chowdhury

    Division VP and Program Director OLED Lighting, Emerging Innovation Group Corning Incorporated

    Dr. Dipak Chowdhury joined Corning in August 1993 as a research scientist in the Mathematical Modeling group in Science & Technology. Starting as a research scientist, he built Corning’s corporate Modeling & Simulation group and appointed as Research Director of the Modeling & Simulation group in 2002. In 2007, he was appointed the director of Corning European Technology Center (CETC) in Fontainebleau, France. In 2008, he was also appointed as the president Corning S.A.S., Corning’s European entity. He was appointed division vice president in 2010 and joined Corning Glass Technology group as the Flexible Glass program director. In his current role he is  responsible for bringing flexible glass application in OLED Lighting. Dr. Chowdhury holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY  and he is a fellow of the Optical Society of America.

  • Dr. Felix Görth

    Director Organic Electronics BASF New Business GmbH

    Felix Görth currently holds responsibility as Director Organic Electronics at BASF New Business GmbH. He took his current position in 2011 and is responsible for BASF´s Organic Electronics activities since then. In this position, he divested BASF´s know how and IP portfolio of phosphorescent OLED emitter materials to Universal Display Corporation in 2016. Felix is now focusing on developing the business of Organic Thin Film Transistor materials for flexible displays.

    Prior to his current position, Felix held several R&D and business positions at BASF in Germany and the USA. His responsibilities covered innovation driven businesses in the agrochemical industry as well as in specialty chemicals for the pharmaceutical and electronic industry.

    Felix Görth studied Chemistry at the Universities of Würzburg, Göttingen and Freiburg. In 2000, he received his PhD in Organic Chemistry at Freiburg University and joined BASF.

  • Dr. Pim Groen

    Program Manager Holst Centre

    Prof. Dr. Pim Groen works at TNO Holst Centre as program manager “Large Area Coating” and Delft University as full professor on SMART materials. He studied Chemistry at Leiden University and did his PhD on ceramic perovskite based superconductors. Hereafter he worked for Philips Research in Eindhoven (NL) and Aachen (Germany) and Morgan Plc. in the field of materials science for lighting and electronic applications. In 2008 he moved to TU Delft and TNO. He is the author of +110 peer reviewed publications, 2 books, 5 book chapters and 25 patents.

  • Dr. Mike Hack

    VP of Business Development Universal Display Corporation

    Dr. Michael Hack, is Vice-President of Business Development at Universal Display Corporation.  He is responsible for developing and commercializing advanced high efficiency next generation OLED products, with a special focus on flexible display applications and solid-state lighting.  Prior to joining UDC in 1999, he was associated with dpiX, a Xerox Company, where he was responsible for manufacturing flat panel displays and digital medical imaging products based on amorphous silicon TFT technology.   Dr. Hack received his Ph. D. degree from Cambridge University, England in 1981 and in 2007 Dr. Hack was elected a Fellow of the Society for Information Display. In 2014 Dr. Hack was nominated to serve on the board of the U.S. OLED Lighting Coalition to promote the advancement and commercialization of OLED lighting.

  • Dr. Andreas Haldi

    Dr. Andreas Haldi received a Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Sciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich, Switzerland and a Ph.D in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology (USA). From there, Andreas accepted a position as Customer Project Manager in R&D at Novaled in Dresden (Germany) before opening an office for Novaled in Seoul (South Korea) as Customer Support Manager. Andreas Haldi joined CYNORA in August 2016 to lead the promotion and sales activities of CYNORA´s products.

  • Francesco Lemmi

    Francesco received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering by the First University of Rome “La Sapienza” in Rome, Italy. Following a post-doctoral experience at the former Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) working on active-matrix X-ray medical imaging systems and devices, he held the position of Assistant Professor in the First University of Rome. Later, he held a number of positions ranging from technical to management, at several startup companies in Silicon Valley (FlexICs, Nanosys, Innovalight) in the fields of flexible displays, active matrix systems and solar cells and materials. In DuPont, his area of work included solar cell technology and materials roadmap, and more recently flexible displays technical marketing. He is currently Business Development Director, Flexible Displays, in the Display Technology unit of Dow-DuPont Electronics and Imaging business, responsible for the commercialization of materials for flexible displays.

  • Dr. Ruiqing Ma

    Director of Device Development Nanosys Inc.

    Dr. Ruiqing Ma, is Director of Device Development at Nanosys Inc. Prior to joining Nanosys, he was the Director of Flexible OLED Displays at Universal Display Corporation, and a Senior Research Scientist at Corning Incorporated. Dr. Ma received his Ph. D. degree from the Liquid Crystal Institute at Kent State University in 2000. He has over 80 publications and conference presentations, and over 100 US patents and patent applications in the fields of LCD, OLED and Quantum Dot displays. He is a member of the SID Executive Program Committee, and serves as a Guest Editor for Information Display.

  • Dr. Christian May

    Division Director Fraunhofer FEP

    Dr. Christian May studied Physical Metallurgy at Freiberg University of Mining and Technology. He received his PhD from same university in 1999. From 1997 he was with a vacuum coating system supplier as project manager dealing with large area thin film deposition. Since 2003 he is with Fraunhofer. First he was responsible for the development of fabrication technologies for large area OLED lighting and organic solar cells. His current position is Division Director “Flexible Organic Electronics” within Fraunhofer FEP, the Fraunhofer Institute for Organic Electronics, Electron Beam and Plasma Technology. He acts as the project coordinator of the German national funded project R2D2 which is dedicated to develop flexible OLED lighting for automotive, aircraft and household appliances. Dr. May is the spokesman of the OE-A roadmap team Lighting.

  • Selina Monickam, Ph.D.

    Product Development Manager Pixelligent Technologies, LLC

    Selina is the Product Development Manager of Product Development team at Pixelligent Technologies, an advance materials company that delivers next generation optical materials.  She received her Ph.D degree in Organic Chemistry from University of Maryland.  After receiving her degree, she taught for a couple of years before joining Pixelligent in 2010.  Selina is responsible for finding innovative ways to modify the surface of ZrO2 nanocrystals for different applications targeting high refractive index polymeric materials for display and lighting applications. She has served as the PI for 3 DOE SBIR grants geared towards developing a High Refractive Index UV curable formulation using Pixelligent’s nanocrystal. Currently she is the PI for 2 DOE SBIR grants leading a team of scientists developing high refractive index formulations as Internal Extraction layer for flexible OLED lighting applications. She has  12 US patents and applications on the technology.

  • Kunjal Parikh

    Kunjal Parikh is Principal Engineer at Intel with background in Displays, Sensors, Touch and Human Interface Technologies. Kunjal is responsible for developing the company’s technology roadmap of key user experience critical hardware components - overseeing engineering, commercial, supply chain - and delivering strategic pipeline of investment portfolio towards differentiation and competitive advantage to Intel multi-billion dollar strategic customer accounts.

    Prior to Intel, Kunjal worked at HP, start-ups and Samsung as part of first AMOLED R&D team in South Korea. Kunjal has over 50+ patents filed and 30+ industry wide publications and been in executive committee of leading industry forums and standard bodies.

  • Dr. Nigel Pickett

    Chief Technology Officer Nanoco Technologies

    Nigel Pickett co-founded Nanoco Technologies and is the inventor of Nanoco’s key quantum dot scale-up technology. Nigel graduated from Newcastle University in 1991 and remained at Newcastle to pursue a Ph.D. in the field of main group organometallics. After graduation in 1994 he undertook a number of research positions at St. Andrews University, Scotland, in the field of synthesis of nanoparticles using chemical vapour deposition techniques. In 1996 he won a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) fellowship and spent the following year working at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Japan, before moving to Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, working on the design and evaluation of precursor used in metalorganic vapour phase epitaxy. In 2000 he moved to Manchester where he co-founded Nanoco Technologies in 2001. Nigel has co-authored over 70 academic papers, is an inventor on over 350 patents and pending patents and has been an executive director on the board of a publicly listed company for the last 14 years. He has a passion and experience in taking research work from the academic bench through to full commercialisation.

  • Andrew G. Sculley

    CEO & President eMagin

    Andrew G. Sculley became the Company’s Chief Executive Officer and President on June 1, 2008 and was appointed to the Board of Directors on November 2, 2009. Mr. Sculley served as the General Manager of Kodak’s OLED systems Business Unit and Vice President of Kodak’s Display Business from 2004 to 2008. From 2003 to 2006, he served on the Board of Directors of SK Display, a joint venture between Sanyo and Kodak. From 1996 to 2001, Mr. Sculley served as the Manager of Operations, CFO and member of the Board of Directors of Kodak Japan Ltd., where he led the effort to improve performance. Previously, he held positions in strategic planning and finance in Eastman Kodak Company. Mr. Sculley holds an M.B.A. from Carnegie-Mellon University, an M.S. in physics from Cornell University and a B.S. in physics from Stevens Institute of Technology. He attended Harvard University’s Advanced Management Program/International Senior Management Program while an executive at Kodak.

  • Robert Visser, Ph.D.

    Managing Director, Advanced Chemistry and Materials Applied Materials, Inc.

    Dr. Robert Visser is managing director of advanced chemistry and materials for the Advanced Technology Group at Applied Materials, Inc. He is responsible for creating business opportunities in new and adjacent markets related to future displays, AR and VR,  roll-to-roll barrier films, as well as developing novel chemistries for semiconductor manufacturing.

    For more than 30 years, Dr. Visser has pioneered research and commercialization of display technologies related to thin film transistors, LCD materials, barrier films (including encapsulation materials), OLED and flexible displays. Prior to joining Applied, he was CTO of Vitex Systems, where he guided the company through conceiving and demonstrating the feasibility of multi-layer thin film encapsulation technology, to the industrialization of its manufacturing equipment and transformation into a technology licensing company. Dr. Visser also spent 18 years in various roles at Philips Research, including CEO and CTO of the PolyLED business. Received a Special Award from SID in 2016 for his work on OLED and Thin Film Encapsulation.

    Dr. Visser holds a master’s degree in theoretical organic chemistry and physics, and a Ph.D. in physical and organic chemistry, both from Leiden University, Netherlands.

  • Dr. Longjia Wu

    Longjia Wu received his Bachelor degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Wuhan University of Technology (WUT), and then got his Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from University of California, Davis (UC Davis) in 2015. After graduation, he joined TCL Corporate Research, engaging in the development of high performance quantum-dot light-emitting diodes for display application.

  • Dr. Fan Xing

    Fan Xing received his Ph.D. in Optical Engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University(BJTU). He visited University of Freiburg in Germany as a visiting scholar for one year during the Ph.D study period. After graduation in 2015, he joined EL materials & devices department in BOE, contributing to the R&D for mobile display application.

  • Takeshi Yamada

    General Manager, OLED Business Planning Office Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd.

    Takeshi Yamada graduated from Kyoto University and obtained his master's degree of polymer science in 1992. In that same year, he entered in Sumitomo Chemical., Co. Ltd and belonged to the  Petrochemical R&D team. After gaining10 years of experience with petrochemical, Takeshi moved to the polymer OLED material development division in Tsukuba laboratory in 2002. From there, Takeshi was involved in several experiences for the merger of Dow’s OLED and CDT’s acquisition before becoming a project manager of OLED material at Sumitomo in 2008. 

    Since 2010, he has worked to build and maintain close relationships with several customers for the development of soluble-OLED display panels, and most recently moved to Sumitomo's Tokyo Head-office and became a general manager of the OLED business planning office.

  • Barry Young

    CEO OLED Association (OLED-A)

    As managing director of the OLED Association, Barry Young addresses such issues as the development of industry standards for OLED display and lighting, promotion of the technology and the resolution of industry-wide technical issues. He serves CEO of Young Market Research, where he produces a comprehensive report on the LED supply chain, characterizing the 100+ LED producers in terms of reactors, wafers, die capacity, yielded die and die revenue. The report featured an analysis of the MOPCVD tool makers. He is also working with a group of suppliers to establish the first US-based manufacturer for OLED lighting. Barry was a featured speaker at the16th CLSA Investors’ Forum and the World Knowledge Forum in Korea. A founder and longtime principal, senior advisor and consultant with research firm DisplaySearch, Young is a leading authority on OLEDs and flexible displays, has visited and consulted with most OLED manufacturers around the world. Young’s work has been published in many technical journals and he has spoken extensively around the world about the display industry. Before joining DisplaySearch, he was CEO and president of OWL Displays, where he co-developed innovative driver technology for a-Si and p-Si TFT-LCDs and was awarded key patents for driving low-temperature polysilicon TFT-LCDs. He has also served as vice president and general manager of Tandem’s integrity systems division. Young’s career also includes time as managing partner at Booz Allen & Hamilton, executive vice-president at Wells Fargo Bank, senior vice-president at Citibank, and president and CEO of Lexar, an early developer of an all-digital PBX. He has a business degree from CUNY and has performed graduate work at George Washington University.

  • Ross Young

    Founder and CEO DSCC

    Ross Young is the Founder and CEO of DSCC. Prior to DSCC, Ross was SVP of Displays, LEDs, Lighting and PV at IMS Research after the firm acquired his market research business Young Market Research (YMR). Prior to YMR, Ross was VP of New Market Creation at Samsung LCD where he reported to the CEO.

    From 1996 - 2008, Young started, ran and sold DisplaySearch, the leading source of market intelligence, events and consulting to the flat panel display supply chain. At DisplaySearch, Young launched most of the categories for the company including FPD equipment, FPD materials, TFT LCD shipments and technology, notebook PCs, desktop monitors, TVs, sell-through and more. Ross pioneered coverage in each layer of the display supply chain and was the only analyst to cover the entire display supply chain at DisplaySearch. Young sold DisplaySearch to The NPD Group in 2005 matching DisplaySearch's sell-in business with NPD's sell through and consumer data providing new insights to customers. Young also received a Presidential Citation Award from the Society for Information Display (SID) in 2012  "for his sustained service in promoting the Market Focus Conference Series from concept to successful completion". 

    ​Prior to DisplaySearch, Young served in senior marketing positions at OWL Displays, Brooks Automation, Fusion Semiconductor and GCA in the driver IC, flat panel automation, etch and strip and lithography markets. Ross graduated from the University of California at San Diego with a degree in Economics and completed their Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies where he conducted extensive research on the relationships between semiconductor manufacturers and semiconductor equipment suppliers which led to the publication of his book -Silicon Sumo: US-Japan Competition and Industrial Policy in the Semincoductor Equipment Industry published by the University of Texas.
