Ahead of his participation at the 2018 OLEDs World Summit, we sat down with Eric Virey, Senior Market & Technology Analyst at Yole Développement, to find out what he is looking forward to hearing at this year's OLEDs World Summit, and discuss why this meeting is a must-attend event for anyone working in the OLED industry.
Smithers Apex: Why is this meeting important to those working in the OLED industry?
Virey: The OLED industry is evolving at a fast pace with credible new entrants, emerging technologies and accelerating adoption in multiple consumer applications. The OLEDs World Summit is a great opportunity to keep appraised of these changes and network with key people and executives at all levels of the supply chain.
Smithers Apex: Why have you decided to support this event?
Virey: The OLEDs World Summit provides a focused and well-balanced agenda with leading companies and research institutions covering both technology market trends and analysis. For our company, it is a unique opportunity to conveniently exchange and gather a large breadth of information on the most recent industry trends in one place and in a short amount of time.
Smithers Apex: What are you most looking forward to hearing at the OLEDs World Summit in 2018?
Virey: We’re looking forward hearing about recent trends in the development of new generations of OLED emitters as well as emerging manufacturing technologies such as printing and new high resolution patterning technique to enable high pixel density displays for emerging applications such as virtual reality. We’re also looking forward to “state of the union” type of presentations providing updates on all major industry trends, challenges and opportunities.
Smithers Apex: As someone who has attended this event in the past, why would you encourage people to attend the OLEDs World Summit in 2018?
Virey: Beside the focused and well-balanced conference agenda, the summit also provides outstanding opportunities for networking and to feel the pulse of the OLED industry.
Smithers Apex: What are some of the industry challenges that this year’s conference will address?
Virey: The OLED industry is experiencing some major transformation with multiple new entrants in display applications and possibly new entrants in the material supply chain. It will also be interesting to see how emerging alternative technology such as microLED or Electro-Luminescent Quantum Dots could compete in the future with OLED in various consumer electronic segments.
